  Thank you for visiting our site.  We appreciate your time and understand how difficult it can be to decide who you will let into your home to complete your addition, kitchen, or other  remodeling work.  At Patrick James Builders, LLC we take great pride in our work and have found that time and time again our expectations have exceeded those of our customers.  As a local, family run company, we have continued to strive for almost 30 years to run our business  with a personal touch not often found in the world today.  Our goal is to deliver a remodeling experience that is professional yet personal enough for you to feel confident from beginning to end that every effort is being made to ensure a finished product that you'll be proud to show your famiy and friends.

A Brief History 

   In 1977 at the ripe old age of 23,  Jim Melehan,  along with his brother began building custom homes in Naperville, Downers Grove, and Lisle, Illinois. Doing all their own carpentry work, what they lacked in experience they made up for with persistence and long hours. The first few homes sold quickly and things were looking good.  Unfortunately, the prime interest  rate hit  20+ percent in the early 80s and with mortgage interest rates soaring, homebuyers became a rare commodity.   At that point, Jim went on his own and with wife Linda answering phones and doing the books, they started building room additions and doing all types of remodeling work.  Thus, the company Patrick James Builders was formed. Through the years, working with in-house carpenters and becoming computer literate for estimating and design,  the company has succeeded in building a "practice".  Customers kept coming back for additional work and referred us to their friends and relatives.  When Brian and Rory, two of Jim and Linda's three sons entered the business, it became a real family affair.  

What We Do

    At Patrick James Builders, LLC we specialize in the design and construction of residential additions, kitchens, and general remodeling.  Our expertise also includes basement finishing, deck construction, window and door installation and cedar, cement board, and vinyl siding.

   Our computer design capabilities allow us to be a one stop design- build company allowing you to see how your house will look in 3D before any work is done.  This allows you to make and see any changes you're considering before the final plans are drawn and the permits secured .  This can help eliminate surprises and help reduce changes that could prove to be costly if made once your work has begun.       

   Since the beginning, we have completed the majority of our work using our own in-house carpenters.  Jim, Brian, and Rory Melehan personally supervise and complete the majority of our rough carpentry, trim carpentry, siding installation, window installation, and cabinetry installation. We  feel this allows us to control the outcome and quality of the job better than using only outside sub-contractors for this work as has become standard for many in our industry today. It also makes our customers more comfortable with the knowledge that the same people, our family, are working hard at, and taking care of, their home each day during their project.
